START YOUR NORTHAMPTON EXPERIENCE

If you’re looking for amazing spots in Northampton where you can book accommodation for all budgets, indulge in savoury takeaways to great dining experiences, discover captivating attractions, and experience different activities, these are some of the places to visit:

Northampton

Being one of the oldest settlements in Western Australia, Northampton is historically rich while maintaining its familiar rural roots. Only 52km North of Geraldton, this friendly, country town is well worth the visit whether you’re coming back down to Perth or continuing your adventure North, up the Coral Coast!

History

Northampton was first settled in the late 1840’s after lead and ore mines were opened. As a result of the success of these mines, the town was surveyed and named ‘The Mines’ in 1871. However this name was soon changed to ‘Northampton’ after the English town of Northampton as well as the then current governor of Western Australia, John Hampton. A railway was built in 1879, connecting Northampton to Geraldton, a major development that helped increase the prosperity of the town. In 1993, it was officially declared a historic town by the National Trust. Northampton now is an agricultural town that takes pride in being a small, country town that can attract tourists from all over the world.

Our Lady in Ara Coeli Church
